Surface protection for the aviation industry
Hamburg: TÜV NORD Schulungszentrum and AviationPower will offer training in the area of aircraft surface protection from the beginning of 2012 in the newly-opened Aviation Painting Training Centre (APTC). At the Centre, which is the only one of its kind in the north of Germany, course participants will acquire the necessary specialist knowledge while working directly on a section of a plane and several areas of the plane's outer skin.
During the training, participants will acquire basic skills in order to be able to perform typical tasks in the field of surface protection for planes. Theoretical subjects such as health and safety, and tools and materials science are taught alongside practical aspects – for example corrosion protection, sealing methods and quality assurance. It is particularly noteworthy that the participants will learn all the skills in the Aviation Painting Training Centre under real-life conditions, for example on a Section 19 of an A300 provided by Airbus itself. Work performed overhead and in places that are difficult to access helps to prepare for working life with their future employer. In addition, participants learn to recognise defects themselves and rectify them on their own responsibility, and also to watch for quality failures in the rest of the team.
The syllabus of the ten-week training course consists of 320 hours of practical work at TÜV NORD Schulungszentrum, as well as 80 hours of theoretical instruction, which will be given by Lufthansa Technical Training. Finally, there is a trainee placement lasting one month provided through AviationPower in the real working environment in cooperating companies, where mentors prepare participants for their work in manufacturing. At the end of the course, those attending can be placed in a variety of companies within the aviation sector, where they will only require a very short initiation period.
"I am very pleased that we are now able to qualify specialist staff for work in the area of aircraft surface protection in Hamburg ", says Walter Birkhan, Managing Director of the aerospace cluster in the metropolitan region of Hamburg. "This training course at TÜV NORD Schulungszentrum is a valuable element within the range of education and training opportunities that we have been developing for more than ten years. The rear section of the airbus on which the prospective aircraft painters learn all aspects of surface protection has symbolic significance. It stands both for our true-to-life training, meeting the requirements of industry, and also for our close relationship with the aerospace sector. Another section of this original A300 has been put in the newly-opened Hamburg Centre of Aviation Training HCAT since May of this year."
The association of aerospace service provider AviationPower with TÜV NORD Schulungszentrum as a provider for vocational training with more than 20 years of experience guarantees course participants optimum conditions for in-depth, high-quality training – and therefore the best opportunities for further professional success.
